That doesn’t mean you can just get online and import the car of your choice though. The most important thing to do when you are considering importing a car into any country is to check that you are legally allowed to do so. In all countries, as is the case in the UK, there are also other factors you have to take into consideration. Probably the most important fact is that all cars imported into the UK must now undergo the strict SVA test under guidelines set by the government. This checks that safety factors including seat belts, brakes, windscreens etc are European compliant. It also ensures emissions guidelines compliancy to make sure harmful emissions aren’t being expelled from your car’s exhaust. For slightly older cars there is, of course, the MOT as well which ensures that everything about your new import is in order. It is very important that you get your import MOTed immediately after it arrives. Don’t forget that the Japanese equivalent of the MOT is a lot more stringent than our own and when you consider they typically have approximately half the mileage of UK cars there really shouldn’t be very much to worry about when testing an imported car . |
